Women Building Futures

Headquartered in Edmonton Women Building Futures is earning a solid reputation across Alberta for recruiting and training the right kind of people for the construction industry – at a consistent student employment success rate of 90% or greater.  In Alberta there are 357,580 women between 20 – 34 years. If only 3% of those women were to choose a career in construction, it would give the industry access to an additional 10,000 workers.

To position Women Building Futures as a future supplier of labour, JudyLynn envisioned and completed the construction of a new trades training facility for women.  It is the first of its kind in Canada.  The facility includes trades workshops, classrooms plus 42 units of fully furnished affordable housing suites for WBF students.  The building was completed on schedule and the required $12 million of funding was secured.

JudyLynn’s profound dedication and determination to bring about positive change has resulted in over 450 women becoming successful millwrights, pipefitters, electricians, carpenters, plumbers, boilermakers, welders and more.

In 2009 JudyLynn received the Executive Women’s Network - Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women Award. She is a member of the NAIT Presidential Advisory Committee, Construction Owners Association of Alberta: Opportunities for Women in Construction Sub-Committee, NAIT Women in Technology Advisory Committee and she holds an honorary diploma from NAIT in Construction Engineering Technology.
